EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT

BUY ON JUNO

After discovering Local Talk records back in 2011, the subsequent exclusive Groovement Soul interview and mix of forthcoming Local Talk releases by Mad Mats and Tooli told us what we already knew, they were gonna be a force to be reckoned with.
The latest release on the juggernaut that is Local Talk is an early Christmas present for all the real house heads out there.
To say this is a good record is the understatement of the year.
GS

On Local Talks 74th release its about time to get real…and we’re not only talking about the music! This is a heavy and political record that through music expresses the constant struggle for many African Americans living in the US today. Or like Jamie (3:26) said after he first heard Sameeds initial version – it instantly hit me with the raw pain and emotion or the lyrics. There is so much struggle in the world today, many black men and women are in emotional, mental and spiritual battles.

The message is delivered over two tracks, ”Testify” and ”Can’t U”. Both tracks are using the same themes and samples but with a distinct difference on the end result.

Jamie 3:26 & Masalo – Testify

Sameed – Can’t U

Sameed – Dusty Jazz (Original Mix)

Last track on the EP comes back to Sameed with another one of his signature laid back jazz tinged House outings. This man has a real handle on how to deliver a chunk on house heaven.
Watch this space peeps!

DEBUT LP FROM KAMM – KICK DRUM LOVE ON MARCEL VOGEL’S INTIMATE FRIENDS IMPRINT http://groovementsoul.com/debut-lp-from-kamm-kick-drunk-love/ http://groovementsoul.com/debut-lp-from-kamm-kick-drunk-love/#respond Thu, 14 Jul 2016 11:38:26 +0000 http://groovementsoul.com/?p=1577

Now for something a bit different

Buy on Juno

Kick Drunk Love is Kamm’s dedut album on Marcel Vogel’s Intimate Friends imprint.
We can all get caught up in the relentless search for new house and disco records but this release brings a breath of fresh air with something new and exciting to all ears, especially people who can appreciate a lean to a more electronic sound. There’s a beautiful mash up of trippy electronic synth sounds with real soulful undertones and a definite lean towards a slowed down beat feast from the past. Our pick of the album is the upbeat “Stage Left” which brings a driving baseline and heady vocal which I’m sure will find it’s way into many sets this summer.

This is a collaborative project from Dave Aju, Alland Byallo, Kenneth Scott, and Marc Smith—whose shared label pedigree is quite something, taking in Poker Flat, Dessous, Circus Company, Moodmusic, Liebe*Detail, Third Ear, Hypercolour, and Rawax, among many others.

Kick Drunk Love will land on Intimate Friends following on from Dikkens’ Retrospect Of A Mind with six low-slung, loose grooves. With live instrumentaion—the quartet recorded live guitar and trumpet parts, with Damian Schwartz playing bass on the track titled “Sidewalk”—vocals, and a downtempo, swinging nature, the mini LP is a decidedly more home listening affair than the solo output of the members, although adventurous DJs will surely find dancefloor gems amongst its contents. As stated by its members, the LP is influenced by “…a love of early ‘90s MoWax era laid-back beats.”

BUY VINYL

SHADELEAF No.9 sees our friend and previous Groovement soul guest JONNA release his debut EP.
Jonna also happens to be one of the masterminds behind City Fly Records a record label that has a proven track record and one of our favourites for many years now.

“Through The night”, tried and tested on Dublin dance floors is a sure fire disco influenced house bomb which is only heightened by Erik Rico’s sublime vocals. A serious piece of deep house dopeness to say the least.

“Without Drugs” is so full of wobble that you indeed find yourself not needing the Aforementioned.

“Music For People” with it’s slamming guitar bassline is reminiscent of some old Moodymann disco sampled gems.

And what a way to finish off the EP that with Kai Alce sprinkling his powerful magic over through the night, delivering an instant classic with his his distinctive sound.

TOP TIP!!!

You couldn’t ask for better in Seven Davis Jr and Ron Basejam to remix an already sweet track.
Seven Davis Jr. delivers a loslung hypnotic version with his distinctive twisted beats while Ron Basejam brings some driving base to the forefront resulting in a surefire dancefloor bomb.

Moodymanc and Luke Solomon deliver the heat for Well Cut Records http://groovementsoul.com/moodymanc-and-luke-solomon-deliver-the-heat-for-well-cut-records/ http://groovementsoul.com/moodymanc-and-luke-solomon-deliver-the-heat-for-well-cut-records/#respond Fri, 18 Sep 2015 11:07:50 +0000 http://groovementsoul.com/?p=1541 Well Cut Records 003 – Dubble D Presents Moodymanc ft Luke Solomon.

Out not on a beautiful 180g 12″ vinyl with spot varnished sleeves.

This is a big release from Moodymanc on the the Well Cut Records imprint with a banging remix by the Classic records legend Luke Solomon.

Vinyl is available in all good stores now with the digital release rolling out later on in October.

Will be keeping a close eye on this label.

Well Cut Records is the label from Danny Ward, perhaps better known for his productions as “Dubble D” and “Moodymanc” also being part of 2020 Soundsystem amongst others. The label is vinyl lead, releasing 180g 12”s in a series of bespoke designed full colour, spot varnished sleeves. It primarily showcases different projects in which Danny is involved from right across the spectrum of House music with the motto of “Passion over Fashion!”

The label has been quick to gather support from some of the biggest hitters in the industry, getting chart support and plays from the likes of Jimpster, Detroit Swindle, Danny Howells, Oliver $, Osunlade, Groove Armada, Shadow Child, Brothers’ Vibe, DJ Sneak, Doc Martin, Moxie, Recloose, Mr G, Trickski, Sidney Charles and many more…

Next up on the new Well Cut Records and the third in the series, is another outing from label boss Moodymanc.

A1 – Opens with “Comfort Me.” a 118 bpm soul drenched deep disco chugger which builds vocal refrains over analogue drums and a beguiling bass line. Definitely sounds for the summer!

A2 – Sees a re-touch of a previously limited release “War and Peace” finally brought to vinyl. A dirty filtered bass line groove coupled with disco drums and jazzy samples gets a funk workout, building to a deep vocal breakdown with a call for peace. Sublime stuff!

B1 – Welcomes a true daddy of the scene, Luke Solomon delivers his “Love and Death Re-Make” of War and Peace. Luke brings that classic touch to the party by toughening the kick and adding some twisted and wonky analogue synth action to up the energy to silly levels.

B2 – Closes with “Hashtag.” A straight up jacking and bumpy groove with a cut up sampled conversation between Snoop Dogg and G-Unit about the current state of hip hop. The sentiments however resonating completely with this producers feelings about the current state of House music in certain quarters, which we are sure will make a lot of sense to any true House head from the old school! An invaluable tool for DJs who really ARE DJs!

LOCAL TALK VS GARITO “MUSIC JOINED US” + INTERVIEW http://groovementsoul.com/local-talk-vs-garito-music-joined-us-interview/ http://groovementsoul.com/local-talk-vs-garito-music-joined-us-interview/#respond Fri, 07 Nov 2014 10:44:54 +0000 http://groovementsoul.com/?p=1416 CD COMP COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL TALK TO CELEBRATE THE 16TH ANNIVERSARY OF GARITO CAFE MALLORCA
(Local Talk interview below)

In Mallorca there is club that is like no other place out there. Garito Café is a small (but big) club that under the guidance of DJ, producer and club owner Nacho Velasco aka Grand Reserva has become Mallorcas best kept secret for over 16 years. Its one of those rare house clubs where people actually do care about the music and where some of the worlds best DJs like MCDE, Ian Pooley, Ame, Chez Damier, Gilles Peterson etc crave to come back to spin their favourite music year after year. Local Talk label boss Mad Mats was one of these lucky DJs that got so spellbound by Nacho and his amazing club that he now returns every year to the Garito. After the bond between Local Talk and Garito grew stronger for every year they finally decided to release a mix album with Local Talk material. Selected and live mixed by Nacho Velasco himself Local Talk are proud to present ”Music Joined Us” which showcase exactly how a night at Garito goes down.

With the Music Joined Us compilation out now on Traxsource via Local Talk. Local Talk Records part founder, Mad Mats chats to DJ, producer and club owner Nacho Velasco aka Grand Reserva about his Garito Café club & more in this Interview.

GROOVEMENT SOUL CHAT WITH MAD MATS AND TOOLI (LOCAL TALK)

Questions by Keith Dalton
Q: When did you first DJ at the Garito Cafe and what makes it so special?
A: Mats: I think it was around 2008 when I first came of to Garito and I usually come over twice every year. The magic of this venue has a lot to do with Nacho Velasco, the founder, owner and resident DJ at Garito. He basically built a musical place after his own personal needs but that is very welcoming to everybody.
Q: What is your is your connection to the Garito Cafe and Nacho?
A: Mats: We’re basically very like minded in music, food, culture and women haha 😉
Q: How did the idea of ”Local Talk vs Garito – Music Joined Us” come about?
A: The idea came about when Nacho and Garito wanted to do something special for their 16th anniversary party. We thought this would be the perfect way to spread the news about Garito outside of Mallorca.
Q: Did you find it hard to select the most relevant Local Talk back catalogue tunes for the comp?
A: Not for us, Nacho picked the tracks and we told him he could pick whatever he wanted from the LT back catalogue.
Q: Bassfort is where it all started for Local Talk, are there any plans to get the Kyodai brothers and Nacho to collaborate under the Bassfort guise again?
A: We know they are working on stuff again, that’s all we’re allowed to say right now 😉
Q: Local Talk is a well established and very successful house label, what do you assign it’s ongoing success to.
A: We hope to be we’re a very consistent label/brand that is always relevant regardless of musical trends and styles. We’re always curious of new styles but if something old school that is good enough turns up we won’t be afraid to put that out either. Its simply about good music really and I think we’ve proven that over the years we’ve been around.
Q: Are either of you in the studio working on some of your own productions or edits.
A: Tooli – I’m working on some stuff, actually I have tons of tracks I have to finish, just need to find the time really but I’m slowly getting there. There stuff coming in 2015, be ready!
Q: Have you any plans or confirmed bookings for Dublin in the near future?

A: There’s talks about coming back to Dublin, hopefully it will happen soon. Both of us love the city and we had a really really good time when we played last year.
Q: You DJ’d at the Southport Weekender in October this year. Did you enjoy the being back at the weekender in the old venue. Did you bust some move while DJing?
Mats: Yes, its always a pleasure to play at Southport. They got the most educated club audience in the world so you can go all over the place and play whatever you like…which is perfect for me! No breaking this time but I definitely did some serious head nodding

Q: Any exciting plans in the future?
A: Lot’s of great music on it’s way. Next up is a Crackazat 12”, the second single from the forthcoming album that’s out early 2015 (it’s a KILLER album). The we’re ending 2014 with a new HNNY release, it’s called Noth…

First release of 2015 will be from Corrado Bucci, there’s a new LTX coming too + we’ve been talking about a new compilation series we want to do in 2015.  All in all it looks like a very good year for fans of Local Talk….oh, we’ve got new merch coming – new t-shirts are on their way.

Gig wise – We’re playing at Panorama Bar with Kyodai and Art Of Tones in January, that’s going to be very exciting!
Q: Are there any artists that really excite you that you haven’t yet released on the label and that you would like to.
A: Perhaps there is but first and foremost it’s about the music so if unknown producer X makes something we really like that will excite us too 😉
Q: How is the scene in Sweden right now?
A: Techno, techno, techno and loads of young DJs that basically want to move away from Stockholm to Berlin. We prefer to play clubs outside of Stockholm to be honest.
Q: What’s been your best party in 2014 so far?
A: The label night at Watergate with HNNY , Kyodai and our friends Tim Vitá, Oliver Gehrmann and Xaver Hirsch (the trio behind LT041, Trinity EP) was really cool and something we’d love to do again.

Above: Nacho and Mats
